2018 Match Play Opportunities

Four opportunities for Match Play with LPGA Amateurs this year!

Match Play is the original format of golf. Scores are determined on a hole-by-hole basis, and the side that holes its ball in fewer strokes than its opponent wins the hole. In a handicap competition (which LPGA Amateurs Match Play is), the side with the lowest net score wins the hole. It’s fun. It’s competitive. And it makes golf a team sport!

Here are the four ways you can experience Match Play in 2018 with our Portland Chapter:

Charbonneau Match Play Clinic & Practice on Sunday, May 27  Click here for details

Start off the year with a Match Play primer or refresher. You’ll get to play two of the most popular formats of Match Play – singles and four-ball – on each of two Charbonneau 9-hole courses. Veteran LPGA Amateurs Match Play coordinators will offer instruction before you play nine holes in each format. This is perfect for those wanting to see if they’d like Match Play. It’s also great for those wanting to re-invigorate their Match Play mojo playing an early-season round.

Portland Chapter Match Play Tournament at Tri-Mountain on Sunday, July 1 – Click here for details

Back by popular demand, we’re sponsoring our 2nd Annual LPGA Amateur Golf Association-Portland Chapter Match Play Tournament. Like last year, this will be a four-ball competition with handicaps applied to create equitable play. You can sign up as a single or ask to be paired with a partner. The event coordinators will then assemble the pairings for this 18-hole competition. Awards will be given out at a no-host lunch that follows in the Tri-Mountain clubhouse.

LPGA Amateur Cup Qualifiers at Portland’s Heron Lakes Greenback Saturday & Sunday, Sept. 8-9

Called the LPGA Amateur Cup, our national organization sponsors Match Play competition starting at the regional level, with the 8-player winning teams advancing to the national Match Play Cup competition, this year at Horseshoe Bay Resort in Texas in early November. This year, the Pacific Cup Qualifier will be held at Heron Lakes Golf Club-Greenback in North Portland, with our Chapter hosting a reception the night before the matches and the award banquet afterward. See the LPGA Amateur Cup website for more details.

Oregon Golf Association Interclub Match Play, May through October

This is the fourth year the OGA has sponsored a Match Play competition for amateur women’s golf leagues in Oregon. All four-ball matches are played at various courses in the Portland area, once a month from May through October. LPGA Amateur Golf-Portland lines up a six-member team each month in this regional competition. We encourage all GHIN-handicapped LPGA Amateur-Portland match-play enthusiasts to sign up as a sub for our team. Contact Suzy Off or Marilyn Morfitt at matchplay@ewgapdx.com.
